What the heck is Facebook engagement bait? Sounds kinda scary. Maybe it has something to do with the Facebook algorithm?

Right. It does. Well, in a way it does. But keep reading and we'll tell you exactly what Facebook engagement baiting is.

We'll also tell you the 5 main types of baiting for engagement that Facebook has singled out, and why they should be avoided at all costs.

Most People On Facebook Know What Facebook Engagement Is

Most know that Facebook engagement is simply the interaction that occurs between users.

They also know what the Facebook algorithm is, and what the term "reach" on Facebook means. They know that increasing their engagement will increase that "reach".

So they are doing all they can to make that happen. They want more of their friends to see their posts.

But there's a right way and a wrong way to increase engagement. Too many are doing it the wrong way.

facebook engagement baiting

And after Facebook's recent announcement, those doing it wrong are in danger of getting their pages dinged. Or worse yet their accounts.

The Facebook Algorithm Is Not Dumb

... in fact it is pretty darn smart and getting smarter every day. They know what's going on and they know what people are doing when they bait for engagement.

And based upon the feedback of the majority of users, that are taking action.

Facebook's Announcement Was A Shocker!

Facebook made an announcement that sent shockwaves through the people who are using these bait tactics to get engagement on their posts.

They have received feedback from a large number of users complaining about the spammy and valueless posts that coax them into liking, commenting, and sharing posts.

These 'engagement baiting' posts go against the user experience that Facebook is trying to create. They know that the intent of these engagement baiting tactics is to trick the algorithm into greater reach rewards.

facebook engagement baiting

Facebook has decided to do just the opposite. They will begin penalizing people and pages that are baiting for engagement. That is exactly why you should avoid Facebook engagement baiting at all costs.

So the baiters really are not creating engagement that leads to more people seeing their posts. Getting dinged as a baiter by Facebook is causing a lower reach, not a higher one.

Facebook Is Hard At Work Perfecting Their Enhanced "Learning Model"

The model can more easily detect the engagement bait activities. Those posts will now show less, not more. In addition, chronic abusers' future posts will be negatively affected.

At the time of their announcement, over the next several weeks would be the roll-out of this user-level demotion. That will most likely put it in full operation as of now.

If you are one who is participating in these Facebook engagement baiting methods consider this your warning.

Keep reading we are about to tell you EXACTLY what engagement baiting is, and what to do instead.

First let me say this. There is a disclaimer. Facebook is not trying to penalize or discourage authentic and legitimate posts. Not at all. They want to reward those who are doing it right.

They Had This To Say ...

"Posts that ask people for help, advice, or recommendations, such as circulating a missing child report, raising money for a cause, or asking for travel tips, will not be adversely impacted by this update."

They Also Said This ...

"Instead, we will demote posts that go against one of our key News Feed values — authenticity. Similar to our other recent efforts to demote clickbait headlines and links to low-quality web page experiences, we want to reduce the spread of content that is spammy, sensational, or misleading in order to promote more meaningful and authentic conversations on Facebook"

So What Exactly Is Facebook Engagement Baiting?

Facebook's goal is not to take the fun out of your experience. Nor are they trying to make it more difficult for you to market your business or your brand in any way. In fact just the opposite.

They want to provide the best user experience possible. They just need you to be genuine and not revert to tactcs that try to circumvent the system.

The baiting tactics go against that objective. They want you to post content that is authentic and relevant to your business or your message, and that has value. This benefits everyone.

So ... back to explaining what Facebook engagement baiting is. Baiting for engagement is a method of goading people into engaging on posts using valueless and irrelevant content to increase their reach on News Feed.

You've All Seen Engagement Baiting In Action

And according to Facebook a lot of users are sick of it. They have watched these tactics go around for too long now.

The result: users are marking those posts as spam. The next result? Facebook is putting a stop to it.

Personally, am not at all surprised to see Facebook taking this action. My only surprise is that it took this long.

Some will question this move. After all, these type posts can be amusing and entertaining. But to a business owner or a person trying to market something, surely they will choose to conform to the wishes of the majority of their audiences. And the feedback from those audiences doesn't lie.

Here Are The 5 Types Of Engagement Posts That Will Do You More Harm Than Good:

Comment Baiting

These are popular Facebook engagement baiting posts with many different versions. Some are even going viral.

One style has the poster claiming Facebook is acting up again and no one is seeing their posts. They ask the audience to please comment so they know the post is being seen.

This is a classic example of commment baiting. But Facebook believes they are spammy in nature. They say there's no value to these posts.

And the recipients of the posts ... most of them anyway ... know what it's really all about.

facebook engagement baiting

The person posting believes that by creating engagement on their post the Facebook algorithm will reward them with points. And points lead to a wider reach.

But as stated earlier, now it will lead to just the opposite. If you are doing this, stop doing it.

facebook engagement baiting

Tag Baiting

Baiting your friends to tag their friends on your post is another Facebook no-no. They consider this engagement bait as well. Not to mention all the negative feedback they are recieing from unhappy users.

Getting tagged on a post lands that post on the tagged persons timeline. And some people just don't like that. Their timeline is for their posts, not someone else's stuff.

Facebook's tagging feature is intended for people to call attention to those who are actually included in the image they are posting. It's not intended for tagging 50 friends a person may think needs to see their post.

facebook engagement baiting

I see people do this all the time and can't help but cringe each time. It's such a spammy move and Facebook thinks so too. You'll get dinged and you'll lose points doing it. The result will be just the opposite of the intended goal.

facebook engagement baiting

React Baiting

Facebook reactions are great for your audience to express how they feel about your post. It's a well received feature used often.

However Facebook believes that sometimes it gets used in a way that was not intended. They consider it engagement baiting when that occurs.

It's ok to ask your readers if they agree with you. It's not ok to tell them to Like if they agree. Or to Like if this, or to Like if that. The readers will tell you if they like what you are saying or not. They don't have to be told to do so, and they don't want to feel expected to do so.

facebook engagement baiting

Facebook doesn't want you to try and force the readers to comment or engage with a specific reaction in any way.

facebook engagement baiting

Vote Baiting

This got popular for a while until facebook started cracking down on it. They consider random off-the-cuff voting to ilicit sharing, comments, or reactions to be a form of bait engagement.

Asking for reaction votes on a subject that has no real meaning or that is obviously used just to create engagement should be avoided now.

facebook engagement baiting

Share Baiting

The 5th Facebook engagement baiting method is share baiting. Using a gift or a reward in exchange for sharing a post is to Facebook a form of engagement bait.

It's perfectly okay to ask your audience to share your content if they consider it valuable or helpful to others. But not to receive a gift.

facebook engagement baiting

The bottom line is this. Facebook algorithm is smart and getting smarter all the time. If you are posting simply to entice likes, comments, shares, or reactions, no matter how well disguised you think it is, your content will be seen less, not more.

If you are asking questions that you could really care less what the answer is, in an attempt to trick the algorithm, you're better off not doing it.

Facebook is trying to create a better more valuable News Feed for everyone. They consider those tactics counter-productive to their goals.

Besides, are the Facebook engagement baiting techniques mentioned above really helpful to your business, your brand, or your cause anyway?

Use Curiosity Instead

Creating curiosity in your posts is far more effective. So is asking questions. If those posts are also providing honest value and benefits then you have a double win.

Try to stimulate a readers thought waves enough to encourage engagement.. If you can draw them into a conversation or entice questions back you are achieving your need for engagement.

Putting genuine thought into your posts, and delivering useful and helpful content will provide more satisfactory results for you, your reader, and your business.

Provide education, inspiration, and motivation. Throw some humor and entertainment into the mix and you are well on your way to creating a real following. No baiting required.

Conclusion

Facebook engagement is the interaction that occurs between users. Most prominently on their posts in News Feed. Facebook rewards users that are creating engagment with better reach, allowing more friends to see their posts.

Unfortunately, in their quest to gain more of this engagement, often times users are practicing what Facebook refers to as engagement baiting, which they do not endorse.

As a result, they have made an announcement that the engagement baiting will be means for penalizing as opposed to rewarding. Those doing the baiting will get fewer friends seeing their posts, not more friends seeing their posts.

We have provided you with an explanation of the 5 main engagement baiting post types, along with examples. We have also made suggestions of more preferred methods of getting engagement.

Final conclusion:

Facebook engagement baiting is not worth getting your pages and accounts penalized. There are better more effective and more efficient methods for creating engagement while showing yourself as a leader and an authority figure that others will happily follow.

I'm a beginner network marketer. I've joined an MLM business. What's the best social media strategy for a beginner?

Does that sound familiar?

Some say don't promote your business on your personal page. They say only on a business page. Some say it's okay on a personal page. What is better?

How about that one? Have you heard it before too?

So Let's talk About social media strategy for a beginner

It's all about engagement. That's the main thing. Your #1 goal is to create engagement.

But why? What does that do?

I want to make sales and enroll team members.

How will this "engagement" thing help me do that?

Engagement is interaction. Sales and team building comes from driving traffic to your websites, to your content, and to you. There are a lot of triggers that create this traffic, and social media interaction is one of those triggers. A big one.

So keep reading we are going to break this down as to the how's and why's. It will answer those questions.

Should I Promote My Business On My Personal Page?

It's really a personal preference. Are you passionate enough about your business to shout it out to the world? If the passion is not there, or if you are afraid of what your friends and family will think, then you might not be all in.

It's like sticking your toe in the water but being reluctant to jump.

I promote my business on my personal page because it's something that I believe in and that I'm proud about. But I do it in a strategic way. You can do it effectively without being a pain in the rear.

Teaching things that are somehow relevant to your product is a good strategy. Mixing your posts up with personal stuff, raising awareness of issues, and offering solutions to problems is a good mix. So are testimonials and talking about benefits. Not being overly repetitious will keep you out of that "you're annoying" space.

Just so you know ... not posting regularly, is NOT a good strategy.

A good social media strategy for a beginner might be learning how to promote your business or product on your timeline, while you are learning other facets of marketing. You can be setting up a business page and getting an audience and enough likes while you're learning.

social media strategy for a beginner

But if you hold off talking about your business while you're building up your business page, then nothing is happening for you. You already have an audience on your timeline or personal page. Learn to use it effectively.

How Serious Are You About Your Business?

If you are serious about your business and what you are doing, you won't worry about what your friends and family think, and you might even win some of them over. They will see your passions and that you believe strongly in what you are doing. They will understand that you don't care if someone else doesn't like it. And they might even want to follow you because of those qualities. Some might not, and that's okay.

Using social media to get yourself out there is a good social media strategy for a beginner. Self branding is something that can propel you significantly in your business world. You can become known as an authority figure in your niche.

social media strategy for a beginner

But there are other advantages that come with learning social media marketing as well. Use it to build social signals, social proof and website syndication. Learn how to create a web of your internet real estate and link it all together. And posting all the content you are learning to create is putting social media to work for you.

The following factors are all important and have their place in any social media strategy for a beginner.

Social Signals

Okay .. so what are social signals? The MOZ blog says it like this ....

social media strategy for a beginner

Social signals are human interaction metrics on social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Medium, etc. Some examples of social signals are: likes, dislikes, shares, votes, pins, views, etc. which commonly help to showcase popularity and affinity for a specific piece of content.

Social signals have become an important factor in a SERP (Search Engine Results Page). You know ... that page that you see when you search for something on Google. You put in a keyword or keywords, hit submit, and Google brings back their results. There was a time when the results were based almost entirely on anchor text links, backlinks, keywords, and a few other traditional SEO factors .... but now social media is here and things are changing.

social media strategy for a beginner

So you see... social media marketing really does have more of an effect on your business then you might realize, and the way you market on the social platforms has everything to do with your social signal strength.

Social Proof

The more popular you are, the more people want to follow you. If there's a crowd, people stop to see for themselves. They want to know what's going on. If people are gathering, they want to gather too.

It's a phenomenon. We don't know why it is, it just is. People might not know you at all, but if you have a following they will want to follow too. They will think you must be really good at something. On social media they call this social proof. The more popular you become, the more social proof you earn..

Search engines even give points for social proof. You can literally rank higher for being popular. They might judge your reliability, or your trust factor on your social proof. It must mean to them that you are putting out high quality content and providing useful information. Why else would people want to follow, like, and comment on your posts?

Earning social proof is not overly difficult.

It starts with being social, and learning how to communicate on the social platforms in an engaging way that provides value and benefits. Engagement is a big factor. Friends of friends and friends of family really do care about what those that they are connected to are doing and saying, and who they are following and engaging with. You can become an influencer just in the way you post and the content you provide.

So start creating social signals and earning social proof. These alone are a good social media strategy for a beginner.

Here's something interesting. In the Kissmetrics Blog article 7 Things You MUST Understand When Leveraging Social Proof in Your Marketing Efforts, #6 Authority Rules! states the following ....

social media strategy for a beginner

6. Authority Rules!

You probably already know that “influencers” are sought after as sponsors because they are so, well… influential. But why does everything they touch seem to turn to gold in the eyes of their followers? We find in the answer a very interesting cognitive bias known as the halo effect. Psychologists have found that we are likely to judge a person’s opinion based on our overall impression of him or her.

This explains why “influencers” seem to have the Midas touch. Since they already have an established reputation, anything else they involve themselves with is seen in a better light by association. This is why a testimonial from an influential person is one of the few alternatives that can help you boost the effectiveness of your social proof. You can use a notable person in your industry:

Showing Yourself As A Professional Is A Big Social Media Strategy For A Beginner

You are in this for business. If you weren't you wouldn't be reading this post. So you should present yourself as a professional. Let your visitors know that you have a business and let them know that you are serious about building your business.

I'm not saying that your profile picture or your cover image should be pictures of your company or product. Do that on your business page but not your personal page. However you can still set up your personal page to show what you do and what your business is.

A head shot for a profile pic is fine, and maybe some kind of a lifestyle image for your header is fine too. You are not advertising your business, but you are letting your visitors know that the way you present yourself means something to you and that you want to be taken seriously

social media strategy for a beginner

Complete Your Page

Fill in the about me sections and your mission statement. Have a complete page so your visitors can read and learn about you. Let them know that if they were considering a business you would be a good person to talk to and to learn from. Don't try to be someone or something you're not. Just be yourself and be real. If you are new at your business or at marketing it's okay to tell people that. Tell them you are working hard at learning it all and getting better, and that you like to share what you learn with others..

social media strategy for a beginner
social media strategy for a beginner
social media strategy for a beginner

Showing yourself as a serious professional really is the best social media strategy for a beginner I can give you. It's the foundation of it all. Getting other peoples attention and holding their attention is the first step. If you can't do that they just won't take you seriously enough.

Social signals and social proof don't happen overnight.

It takes time to learn the techniques for posting and sharing, and it takes time to learn content marketing. But you can start now. You have the basics. Now it's time to take action. Start with your page and fix it up so you come across as a person who is serious about being taken seriously.

Creating and posting quality content that people can and will share can really give you a boost. It's a known fact that word of mouth recommendations are the strongest there is. If your friends and contacts like and share your content, their friends and contacts are likely to do the same thing, and so it goes.

If you learn content marketing you can share variations of your material so it never gets boring. Your friends will begin to anticipate what you are going to come out with next. They might even start asking questions about learning how to do the same things you do. This could be the beginning of your first training or tutorial product.

Expand Your Reach

There is one last thing I absolutely cannot leave out especially while I'm on the subject of sharing content and getting engagement on your posts. Have you ever felt like only a small percentage of your friends are seeing your posts on Facebook? Well it's not your imagination. Facebook is programmed that way. It's in their algorithm. Those who are engaging with you are the ones who see your posts.

They call this your "reach" So if you want to expand your reach, then expand your content sharing and give it value. Make it beneficial and engaging and shareable. The more people who like, comment, and share your posts, the wider and deeper your reach becomes. And those people's friends and their friends begin seeing your posts also.

But you can't count on getting likes, comments, and shares alone. You must give likes, comments, and shares as well. It's a two sided thing, and it's what creates engagement. If you engage with others, they will engage back. So make it part of your routine.

This Will Get You Started

This is really just the beginning, but it will get you going. There are tools of the trade that will help you automate and syndicate. Learning how to create a web of online real estate is when it starts getting exciting and very real. Start with your social presence and then move to blogging. The two work hand in hand. Putting them together will seriously boost your social signals and your social proof.

So there you have it. My recommendations for a simple social media strategy for a beginner internet marketer. I seriously hope you get some use out of this and get started today. We see far too many people join a network marketing company or an affiliate program only to freeze when they don't know what to do after they join. If instead those people took the time and effort to learn how to market online first, they could come out of the gates blazing.

It's a common thing ... getting wrapped up in the excitement of a new gig causing us to not even think about what we will need to do next. I think most people start that way.
We did too. But we learned lessons and now we want to share our experiences, and how critical it is to get some basic fundamentals in online marketing. We hope we can provide some value in this area and help others realize that learning how to market online should be their first priority.

how to market online

Your Homebase and Your Hub

This is what we are doing now and you should too ... intensive internet marketing training. Learning how to blog and build a website. Use this as your homebase and your hub for feeding your social platforms. It is the key to building your own brand online. Providing good content that has value and benefits. It will attract other networkers to you. They will see the benefits and will want to do it also. Include all other aspects of internet marketing such as SEO, video marketing, and list building.

Make The Decision To Learn How To Market Online

Making a decision to learn how to market online and building your own brand online could be the best move you will ever make. It's not easy. It requires hard work and daily action. But it's worth it in the long run. We've been down this road and we learned some hard lessons. It's not fun wondering what to do next, or if you've made a mistake even getting involved. People quit days later after realizing they don't know what to do to make it happen.

Build Your Own Brand

Establishing your own brand and learning how to be seen, how to become known, and how to be everywhere will take all that guess work away. Things will be different when you learn how to market online properly. Anyone can do it. There's a ton of training available and for free too. You will need to invest in some low cost marketing tools and aides like hosting and domains but it's not a big deal. Compare it to expenses for starting and building any other kind of business. There is no comparison.

When you learn how to market online you won't have to depend on any company or team or upline to do it for you. Sure, any help will be a bonus, but generally speaking, network marketing or direct sales companies have never been providers of the kind of marketing tools and materials that will set you apart from the crowd. They won't teach you how to build your brand and become the leader. They are busy providing a replicated website, and the products and infrastructure for managing your business. That is their priority as well it should be.

A good  network marketing company will provide a stable and long lasting platform for you to build a residual income, and some very basic marketing materials. That's all you will need when you become proficient at building your business.

how to market online

Your Priority Becomes Promoting The Brand Of You

So your priority becomes promoting you, and why people would want to join you. This will bring better results than if you are always branding the product and the company. Of course you have to do some of that, but it's also quite necessary to provide your own value as well. Naturally your friends will join you, but no one has ever built a walk away income with just their friends and family. Your reach will need to extend far beyond that. Learning how to market online will help you pull that off.

Get Good At Online Marketing

When you get good at online marketing you'll be able to choose any company you want or build any business you want. It won't matter ... you'll be able to build it. You will be the nucleus, and if you choose a good company or a good product, you'll then have a one, two punch.

We spent years rambling about, bouncing around, going here and going there, not knowing what to do first or what to do next. Don't do what we did. Decide now to learn how to market online, and then choose what you are going to build.

Are you unsure about getting started with online marketing? Do you want to get something going but just not sure where or how to begin?

Today we will talk about it. We will talk about how important it is to just start, and that you don't have to be an expert, but rather just a little motivated. I have a lot of friends in the industry and I watch way too many capable people lose interest and lose their dreams simply because they just could not start taking action..

Getting Started With Online Marketing Does Not Have To Be Difficult

Start with the basics and keep it simple in the beginning. Step by step. It's okay if you don't know the first thing about it right now. You know enough ... everyone knows enough to get out there and get started.

getting started with online marketing

I can help you along with some simple advice and direction. Create an identity. This is the beginning of building your brand. You'll see the importance of this as you get going. Anyone that wants to make something happen online must create an identity and a brand. If you don't, you are just a ghost.

Your Domain Name - This Is Step 1

Your domain name is your name tag. It's all part of your brand. It can be anything you want it to be. Preferably something professional that relates to you. Some people use their name if they are an individual business person.

Company owners might use a company name or a company tagline. Others might use a nickname or something that people know you are associated with. But keep it professional. You can always adjust before you get too deep into it.

Get Your Hosting Account and Set Up Your Blog - Step 2

This is your next step. You are creating an identity online, and you are creating some online real estate. People have to be able to find you if they put your name in a search engine. This is the beginning.

You can add your home page and subsequent website pages later but start with a wordpress.org blog. This will get you going in the easiest and fastest way.

I use HostGator for my basic hosting. They are a good fit for a beginner. Once you get your hosting account the wordpress website is an easy install through the HostGator dashboard.

Too many people get hung up on trying to create the perfect home page website first. But it freezes them. You will hear me mention "rapid implementation" often times. Taking action is the key. Blogging is essential in your training. It's not just the writing of a blog post, but what it all leads to.

Blogging is your gateway to learning SEO, images, link building, list building, and setting up sales funnels. You start with the basics, you learn the basics, and then you start adding on. A sure-fire way to get frustrated and quit is trying to learn too much and too many different things at once. It gets overwhelming and you'll get lost. We won't let you do that if you follow us along.

Getting Started With Online Marketing

Learn As You Go And Build On Your Momentum

As you start learning and building momentum you will get more excited. Getting started with online marketing might seem hard at first, but stay with it and it will all start to make sense.

You'll develop a plan of action and a path to follow. My book, Internet Marketing Basics for the Beginner, talks a lot about the importance of having a plan and a strategy to follow. It will keep you on track and in the game.

These suggestions are the best advice I have for you. I'm speaking from experience. There's nothing better than self satisfaction in watching yourself grow and learn. There's plenty of training and it's all free. You have a complete encyclopedia a click away. Just Google it. Absorb and learn.

Your blog will become the hub of your networking wheel. You'll share your blog posts on your social media platforms. You will learn to repackage your blog content into various other forms of content. This leads to "content marketing" where it gets fun and exciting.

Next you will build your website home page, your about me page, your lead capture page, and your list building funnels. This is what blogging will lead you to, and this is where getting started with online marketing will take you.

All The Training You Need Is Free And A Mouse Click Away

So instead of putting things off because you're not really exactly sure what to do, the thing is that if you just decide you are getting started with online marketing, you will. Put some things in motion. Take my advice and start with step one and step two. The rest will come to you as you go. It doesn't have to be perfect and it doesn't have to be pretty. Remember ... rapid implementation.

You can take all the trainings in the world, attend all the webinars and workshops, read all the ebooks, and drive yourself crazy doing those things ... or you can just start and do, and learn as you go. The latter is by far the better.

Will you make mistakes? Of course you will. Will you learn from them? Yes! Nothing will break... you can't hurt yourself. Try it and you'll see. Learn how to set up a blog, how to post and market on Facebook, and how to create a Youtube channel and start doing some videos.

There Are People Willing To Help

Find someone who is doing the things you want to do, watch them, study them, learn from them, and then do what they do. Search around and you'll eventually find someone who's training style you like. Follow that person.

You will progress... you will polish it, and fine tune it, and it will work into something you can be proud of. Getting started with online marketing will lead you to bigger and better things.

Start with the basics. Work on those things and you'll get comfortable. You'll find what you are good at. It could be blogging, or social media, or videos. Learn that thing and learn it well and become an expert at it. Then start adding things to your portfolio. Eventually you will tie it all together.

getting started with online marketing

After working at it for a while your current tasks will become habit. There's a lot of methods that can be incorporated into your daily routine that will gradually get you to the success that you want.

Everyone Can If They Want To

Anybody can do this. You don't have to have any experience and you don't have to be some kind of a whiz or guru. You just need to take some simple action steps. I was doing this the slow long hard way ... doing it on my own figuring it all out from scratch. .

You don't have to do it that way. Do it on your own but with the help and guidance of someone who has been through it and who is willing to answer your questions. It's not necessary for someone to do it for you and you don't need hand holding ... you simply need guidance.

I'm not an expert now by any means but I've come a little ways. Not knowing a thing about it when I started I even put a note out about it that said "hey everyone I'm going to start blogging but i have not idea what i'm doing".Telling everyone what I was going to do ... means I had to do it.

Helping Others Will help You

I can now see where it is all going and along with a brighter future. If i can help just one person that's very well worth it. I'm helping myself at the same time I'm helping someone else.

Learning as I go and teaching others. You know they say one of the best ways to learn is to teach what you learn. It sticks better. When you learn something, teach another person what you learned. Post about it, blog about it, and video about it.

Everyone has strengths .... finding yours is the key. Getting started will help you do that.

Getting Started With Online Marketing 2

So you see ... getting started with online marketing could be the best decision you make. There is only one thing holding you back, and that is you. So get started today.

My internet marketing journey has been just that ... a journey. Just as it is for every other person. I'm not an exception. Things change rapidly on the internet and even the basics will evolve over time. What used to work, might not work so well anymore. That's exactly what I have discovered. I'm convinced that if a person is going to "make it" in this profession, they better be willing to change with the times. That will require keeping some of yourself in a "student mode".

Reading, studying, and keeping up with the times and the latest techniques I believe is a necessity in this profession. I've seen too many marketers that once were on top of their game, get "frozen" trying to recapture the magic. Unfortunately, some of the techniques that put them on the top earlier in their careers no longer work. A lot of their old contacts have moved on or left the business ... so they get stuck.

internet marketing journey

This has been going on for me for a while now, largely unnoticed at first, but over the last couple years or so it came like a slap in the face. Once the realization set in I knew that some changes needed to take place, and fast. I knew that it was time to shift gears and change directions.

Time To Get Serious

So, moving forward, I'll be working hard at re-learning and perfecting methods that are current and utilize the tools and resources that are available. A big part of that will be providing education and good useful content that others can use to help them do the same thing. I want people to follow me because I want them to see the progress that I make. I'm hoping that those watching will be witness to a transformation with me in regards to my knowledge with internet marketing and the things that I can bring to the market.

mobile phone, smartphone, app

Every time I learn something, or do something, or apply something, or take a training I'm going to blog about it. This is for my benefit as much as anyone else's. I know it's part of the learning process for me. If someone else happens to benefit from it as well that's really cool.

If you miss me you'll be able to find me at home in my office with my face buried in a book reading something that I can then apply. Ok ... so it might actually be a computer screen. But I'm like a sponge right now soaking up everything I can get my hands on.... and you know what's really crazy... I actually enjoy it! I love learning new stuff and I love creating new cool stuff.

After I write about what I learn, then I'll video about it. I learned long ago that good content can be repackeged many times over with a variation of the same message, in a different way, that can benefit many different people.

It's work .... hard work ... but I think everyone should go on an internet marketing journey

I'm not an SEO expert... far from it. In fact I would go so far as to say I'm still an SEO beginner .. it's certainly not the main aspect of my networking business, but it is an aspect. I am aware of it. We should all be at least aware of it. I do some reading on the subject and I like to see my sites getting ranked on Google and my videos on YouTube. Any well rounded online marketer will know that search engine optimization does have some relevance.

So I've learned the search engine optimization basics, and happy to pass those on to some other beginners.

Search engines are ever evolving.

Google has an army of technicians tweaking their data daily. Most changes are good for the end user, but it does require us to stay on our toes if we want to keep up with the latest changes and updates. If a person does not catch-up, or keep up, it can be a little confusing and a bit if a guessing game.

search engine optimization

For those who need a crash course, search engines serve to find and create different search results based on the "keywords" that are put into the search box. The technology is smart though and getting smarter. Your results can be a reflection of some of your history and habits. They might pull up pages for you based on pages you've found useful in the past, or your profile if you have one, or your location, or a number of other things relative to your habits.

For the marketer who is counting on rankings to get traffic, keeping up with the changes will become a continual thing, and could become a challenge to stay in front of. Google's search engines programming will continue to evolve and grow and change, making it necessary to stay in tune with what' s happening. The basics will remain pretty straight forward, but some of the SEO marketers get deeply involved with the technology and it becomes quite competitive.

Those who stay in the know, will win the SEO game..

Google does however continue to provide a good assortment of tools and training for webmasters to help them improve their page ranks.

One thing that has not changed: The marketers most powerful weapon in their arsenal will remain high quality content to attract their audiences. So regardless of how techie you are on search engine optimization, your job stays the same ... to continue creating well written authority content. If you do that you will continue to rank.

Don't try to trick the search engines, they are 3 steps ahead of you. Instead focus on providing quality content your audience wants and needs. That is your main objective. You can always study to learn the nuances of SEO if you want, but do that first.

Search Engine Optimization Still Works

Yes it does work... it will get you traffic, and some niches are better served by search engine optimization than others. SEO works exceptionally well for local businesses, maybe because the keywords inserted tend to be more precise. I'm not sure, but even so, online businesses where location does not matter can benefit from SEO as well. Provided of course that you are delivering great content and lots of it, and you understand how to use keywords properly.

Long gone are the days of keyword stuffing, and you don't want your content to look unnatural in any way, just to insert a keyword. There was a time that was acceptable and even recommended but hose days do not exist any longer. You will get the exact opposite result... in the form of penalties from Google.

search engine optimization

So keep it natural, insert the keywords where they make sense and keep the story flowing. Of course you want to continue using your keywords in your page titles, tags, subtitles, and headers.

Use Social Media to Drive Traffic

Social media has become a force for marketers i think we can all agree on that... but ... don't for a minute think it has replaced websites for sending traffic to. Social media is a means to drive traffic to those sites. (or your brick and mortar store). You don't want your audience to go to social media and stay there, and you don't want your social media base to not experience a well rounded marketing loop or funnel. You still want to take them on a journey that educates and informs them along the way, on autopilot.

Social media is a great place for an initial contact or introduction... a means for people getting to know you, and then getting into your funnel. Your website and blog are you base. Your websites still are used to build your list. So getting ranked in google (and YouTube) will remain a force with savvy networkers.

Things evolve quickly online these days. Yes search engine optimization is still a major factor, but also pay attention to video, webinars, online events, and more traffic generating technologies that have become prevalent today. Bottom line .... continue to focus on delivering high quality useful content that is focused on your audience, and you will benefit from search engine traffic.

Getting yourself noticed online will be necessary if you are to find people that might be interested in your products, services, or opportunity. There’s a lot of competition so you need to be a little bit different from most.

Once you are known for providing high-value content that people can benefit from, then you’ll start to buildGetting Yourself Noticed up your followers. There’s a lot you can do. Everyone is good at something and everyone has something to offer.

Getting Yourself Noticed Is Not That Difficult

Anyone can do it. Here are a few examples of what you might want to share with others and teach to people.

  • How to set up a hosting account
  • How to buy a domain
  • Why a person would want a domain name
  • How to set up a blog
  • How to set up a facebook fan page
  • Tips and tricks for getting engagement on your Facebook posts
  • Building relationships online
  • How to do Facebook ads
  • How to set up and use a lead capture page inside Facebook
  • Setting up a Youtube Channel
  • Why a person would want to start video marketing
  • How to edit videos
  • What to blog about
  • Image software and how to use them
  • List building principles

Those are just a few examples. So you see, there is tons of stuff that anyone can do and teach to provide value online. This is content marketing and it’s also attraction marketing. People are attracted to those who can help them in some way. People want to work with others who provide training, leadership, and direction.

Be Serious About Your Business

If you let people know that you are serious about what you are doing, that you are in it to win it and that there are no other options but to succeed, and that you are dedicated to your business and there for the long term, then you will get their attention.

On the other hand, if you put yourself out there as someone who is just part time, or just dipping their toe in the water, or if you are jumping all over the place and promoting multiple programs and every next new thing, no one is going to take you seriously … at least not a business builder.

Let people know that you have some knowledge of your industry, and that you stay up on the latest in Getting Yourself Noticedstrategies, and that you are always testing new business building methods that you will be reporting on. Things happen fast and they change fast on the internet… what worked last year might not work so well this year. So read, study, and learn about the industry that you are in, and share what you learn.

By doing these things, you will differentiate yourself from most of the amateur program promoters online pitching their businesses, yet not providing any value and substance and reasons why a person would want to work with them.

Give People A Reason To Want To Join You In Business

Anyone can join anyone, and people join people for a reason. Give them a reason. A lot of people sponsor shop…at least those who are serious about making something happen. They know they need a good leader and good support, so you darn well better let them know you can provide those things.

Getting yourself noticed online is just the beginning, but it’s the first step. Self-branding is critical to establishing your online presence.

Multi Platform Marketing is something that all marketers should work towards perfecting.

Why? Because multi platform marketing boosts exposure, leads, and sales.

So what does this mean really … what is a platform? Every different social media site, website, video host, forum, search engine, etc, is a separate platform, also known as a channel. So it stands to reason, the more platforms you are advertising on, the more exposure, and engagement, you will receive.Multi Platform Marketing

Multi platform marketing can lead to higher returns on your investment, regardless of what you are marketing. If you are not getting your message out to a broad audience and taking advantage of all the platforms available, you are going to miss at least some of the audience you want to hit.

Having said this, there are some challenges involved in marketing this way. We’ll cover those now.

Keeping the Message

Have you ever noticed how users personalities and mannerisms can differ across separate platforms? Those on Linkedin may be distinctly different from the people on Facebook for example. You might find yourself trying to conform yourself to these different types of people. In doing so, however, your delivery might change and that’s not necessarily the best thing. Let’s not lose the message in the process. We might be on multiple platforms, but we will be constructing a link among all our channels, creating a path to follow. Stay recognizable throughout, and keep the same message throughout.

Consistent Branding

It’s crucial for our branding to be consistent as well. The goal is to be recognizable at a glance. Think of the big brands out there. It doesn’t matter where you are when you see them, you know who they are instantly. That will be our goal as well, although maybe on a slightly smaller scale, it’s as important to us as it is to them.

Using Channels That Matter

Your audience might be diversified, but it’s not everywhere. If you know who your target is you can learn where they are gathering. Having a target audience doesn’t do any good if you are not putting your message where they are hanging out. This is a big part of getting conversions and results. Having the right people see the ads is as important as the ads themselves.

Learning How To Deliver The Message

We talked about it. Not all people are the same. They can still need and want what you have, but they may be more responsive to different methods of delivery. So while the message remains theMulti Platform Marketing same, the way it’s transmitted can vary. A quick example is Twitter with its 140 characters, Facebook with its very popular live feeds and videos, and Google search engines being good for blog posts, videos, and articles. There are many variations and some styles work better across alternate platforms. Learning how to re-package your content can have big advantages with multi platform marketing.

Knowing What Your Audience Wants

It’s important to know just what your audience needs and how they want to receive your message, if at all. What do they need to hear? Can your product benefit them? What are their hot buttons? Do you know their likes and dislikes? Do they have a problem that needs to be solved? If so, can your product or service solve that problem? It’s never about you…. it’s always about them.

Putting All The Pieces Together

Staying consistent and on point can be tricky across multiple platforms. But even though the platforms are different in structure and name with various formats, they still work together. Keeping a cohesive and well-balanced message and approach across your multi platform marketing will help your brand immensely. Your audience will recognize you and you will appear more organized and cohesive.

Good luck with your marketing.

Do you think it’s important to be recognized online?

Do you believe it could be of some benefit if you were looked upon as an internet marketing leader or an expert in your niche?

What about staying consistent with your presence online and on social media… do you think that matters?

In this blog post, we are going to discuss methods to become known and recognized as an internet marketing leader.

There is no cookie cutter formula. It’s not a black and white step by step process. There will be unclear areas in your journey, but you will gain focus as you go. As long as you lay down a path for yourself and follow it, you will get clarity. I’ve included some steps that should help you along.

Blogging

Blog often – even if you don’t have a following yet. When people start coming around to visit yourInternet Marketing Leader blog you want them to be greeted with plenty of content. Every post doesn’t have to be about your main topic. Still, it’s best to weigh more heavily in favor of showing yourself as having a knowledge in your chosen niche. This is a calculated process in slowly becoming known as a well-balanced individual and an authority in your field. You could start from a beginner’s perspective and work your way up from there. This way you won’t lose those who are young in their own journeys.

Social Media

Post on Social Media – you can post in ways that will get you followers. Provide thoughtful tips and encouraging words. Motivation is always a winner, everyone loves humor, and offer expertise about your niche or topic of choice. This way you are giving a mix that will keep people from becoming bored with your material. Readers don’t want to see the same thing all the time, or to be pitched about something they could care less about.

Video

Video Marketing – even if you don’t like getting in front of the camera. It doesn’t matter …you can learn about creating cool videos without ever having to show yourself. If you are not shy then get yourself out there. We are in the age of video and that’s what a lot of people expect to see now. There’s a ton of info available and you can learn how to do small edits, so it doesn’t matter if you mess up. If you do, then just cut that part out…. no big deal. But using video is a great way to become known, and you can start offering info and teaching people about your passion.

Groups

Engage in Groups – like forums and social media niche groups. Find groups whose topic you know something about, and engage. Make conversation with others and you’ll make friends at the same time. Groups and forums are great for networking if you’re not just pitching your deal. People who see you offering useful ideas and constructive conversation often will reach out to become better acquainted.

SEO

Study and Learn – about SEO, and how you can optimize your content to be found in the search engines. You don’t have to be an expert here. You only need to know the basics to be as good, or better, than most of the other marketers on the scene. There are even plugins and programs that will do a lot of the work for you. For example, if you are blogging with WordPress you can get a Yoest SEO plugin that will tell you exactly what to do to optimize your posts. GoogleInternet Marketing Leader+ posts also get priority indexing with Google search, just as youtube videos do. It’s a great way to get “seen” by other networkers and prospects.

Articles

Articles – are also effective ways of delivering your message online, and you can easily find 3rd party
resources that will distribute those across the internet. Press releases can be categorized into this group too. Google could even pick up some of your content with these services and if you spread your messages far and wide there is a better chance of that happening. Write as many articles as you can and distribute them as often as you can. Chances are you will be seen and you will be recognized.

Education

Teach and Educate – as frequently as you can. Providing useful content such as how-to tutorials is an excellent way to get yourself known as a leader. Informative manuals and articles are also great ways to render high-quality material. It doesn’t matter how it’s delivered, any of the platforms mentioned above will do just fine. You might have your own ways that suit you better. What matters is that you create the content and make it available to others.

To summarize …getting yourself recognized online and becoming known as an internet marketing leader is crucial to your online success. Not everyone is able to accomplish this feat, but it can be done by having a plan of action and sticking to it. Providing high-quality content that people can use and benefit from is the fastest way we know to get there. The goal with this type of marketing is to have those you network with, seek you out as the person they want to work with, as opposed to you having to chase people around.

Are you finding yourself stuck getting started with internet marketing?

Do you feel that everything must be perfect before you can publish your material?

We often see beginners not getting started with internet marketing because they feel their work is not good enough. They think it has to be perfect to put it out there, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.

We talk about this often, and we’ll keep talking about it. It doesn’t matter what it is… blogging, social media posting and engagement, video marketing, website building, or even just reaching out to people for one on one conversations … it’s good enough.

Here’s what I mean … whatever it is, it’s good enough to get you started. You’ll get better, but only by getting started with internet marketingdoing!

The trouble we see is this … trying to make it perfect takes too long. People lose interest and end up not doing anything ever. What a shame! Am I right?

It’s better to get started, imperfectly. This can inspire people. They might think if that person can do it imperfectly than so can they. Everyone is a little timid at first. Questioning the quality of your work as a beginner is normal, but seeing someone else doing it can change that.

It’s not as hard getting started with internet marketing if you begin with an activity that you are at least a little familiar with or comfortable with, so get started with whatever that is. Maybe you like posting on facebook, or maybe you like writing articles… you could start blogging. Maybe you are good at putting together little ads, you could get started with Facebook Ads. Whatever it is, start there, and get good at it. Then add the next thing and do that until you are good at that one…and so on.

Don’t worry about it not being perfect…. do it anyway

You can even let people know that you are aware it’s not perfect, but that it’s okay. “I’m just getting goingGetting Started with Internet Marketing here but I discovered something cool I wanted to share with you. I like it so I’ll keep doing it until I get better…. you can join me if you like”. This can put people at ease. “Well, then I can do that too”.

Consequently, once you do get started, it’s important to stay consistent. It’s easy to get distracted and lose focus… that happens to all of us from time to time. When it does happen it can be very difficult getting back in the groove. The best solution is to stay somewhat active even through the slow periods. You don’t want to forget what you’ve learned and you don’t want to lose that inspiring feeling that you are finally accomplishing some things, and learning.

If you are struggling to stay on track, try to find an accountability partner. A friend who is also trying to accomplish the same things, and partner up with that person. This way you can both work to motivate each other to keep going. It gets easier if you stay with it, and it really is the repetition that propels you to bigger and better things.

I hope these words can help a beginner getting started with internet marketing. Watch the short video here for an overview and a little more insight on the subject.
