We all want a big win in our lives. Something that puts us on top of the world, guarantees freedom, or makes everything better.

But that sounds like winning a lottery…and that’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about a big win in your business…and I’m talking about creating that big win.

We Have To Create Our Big Win

A big win in your business adds fuel to your fire and will help kick your business into the next gear. And it's a building block for more wins to come. A series of little wins will become that big win that we all strive for.

Our big business wins will come from a series of little wins, and defeats too. No one wins all the time… but we create wins through planning, taking action, sheer determination and lots of hard work.

We have to create a win of some sort, to establish ourselves as leaders. Winners attract others that may want to work with us.. And when we do, we show others what we did, and how, and that they can too. And we create followers doing it. To create followers, we become winners.

Everyone’s Business Win is different

For beginners a big win may be something as simple as creating a blog. Getting it up online and driving traffic to it, or getting subscribers to that blog. Or maybe getting a sales funnel up and functional on their blog.

That’s a big deal and something to be proud of.

To others it may be reaching a certain rank in their company. Or a certain position in the search engines with a popular keyword. What about being able to leave a full time job and coming home to work … or bringing a spouse home from their full time job.

Maybe getting a child into a certain college, or being able to go on that dream vacation. Those are all big wins worth celebrating.

Promote Your Big Win

Use your big win to further your success in your business and promote it to the world. Encourage others and establish yourself as a leader.

People are looking for winners. They are wired to join winners, winning teams, and leaders. Talk about your big win. Share how you accomplished it, what it took, and how you feel about hitting that mark … and create that followership.

Everyone loves hard workers that make things happen. It’s inspirational and shows anything is possible.

Big Wins In Your Business Come from Win Stacking

Our big win doesn’t happen overnight or without a fight. We don’t just fall into it, we work for it and we make it happen. We do that by getting little wins along the way … and some defeats too.

We stack the little wins until they become a big win. And we learn from the defeats. We apply what we learn to stack more wins.

stacked coins equals stacking wins

No one wins all the time …it’s a process…and sometimes a long drawn out process. But then the exhilaration and rewards are ten fold. So talk about those little wins and those defeats along the way. And learn to turn some of those defeats into wins.

Learn to turn the negatives into positives. And keep going. Win stacking never ends. It’s a continual ongoing process. A map and a path to success.

That victor’s mentality can push anyone to the extreme. We push the envelope and strengthen our win muscles, not our defeat muscles. And we continue on our path to our big win.

How will that big win make you feel

Winning feels good and we all want that. It feels good getting closer with each little win.

Seeing that light getting brighter and brighter each step of the way is a huge motivator. That drive for satisfaction and triumph will get you there.

On the other hand think also about how not reaching your big win will make you feel. Disappointment or fear of failure can be a huge motivator and a driving force in itself.

3 friends giving high five

Set your mind that failure is not an option. The only option is to get that next win…and keep going. There’s no better motivation than progress. Just keep going.

That Big Business Win Is Yours For The Taking

It's true! It is there for the taking. But that's exactly what you have to do. You have to take it.

That win is not going to run up and jump in your lap. Sometimes it will run from you. And when that happens, you have to chase it down.

It's not easy. It's never easy. You have to become the aggressor. The go-getter. You have to make it happen.

Feeling Free Silhouette From A Big Win

Not sure how? Most don't. At least not at first. So you have to learn. You have to research, study, and learn. Find those that are successful in your niche and do what they do. Get a mentor.

But whatever you do don't fall into that training trap. If you find yourself getting stuck in training then throw it away and just take action. Taking action and learning from your mistakes, and from your successes, and from your wins, is the best way!

There is no one size fits all. No single method of promoting your business or product is THE one and only method to use. But there are some very basic marketing methods that when used together will take your message to another level of exposure.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. You might be better at blogging, or videos, or social media. I've always recommended to go heavy with those you are good at, while you're learning the others.

Varied audiences have their favorite ways to receive information. Some people like to read, some like to watch, and some like to listen. Mixing your delivery methods will reach more of those varied audiences.

Varied audiences have their favorite ways to receive information. Some people like to read, some like to watch, and some like to listen. Mixing your delivery methods will reach more of those varied audiences.

Not everyone is in one place online. Diversify to reach more of those people. Stick to your niche, but find them in different corners of the internet by using various delivery methods.

In this post we will cover 10 basic marketing methods you should know and learn. You won't become an expert at all of them. No one ever does. At least not for a good many years. But the ones you are not overly familiar or comfortable with can be won over with a little practice.

10 Basic Marketing Methods For Newbies To Pros

1. The King Is Still Content Marketing

Provide useful, educational, and informative content. This is, in my mind, the best way to get the message out about your product. There are many ways to go about it, which we will break down further in the post. You can cut videos, write blog posts, or post on social media. And that's just for starters. But providing content of value is what will separate yourself from so many others who are not providing value.

basic marketing methods

There's a reason why I chose content marketing as #1. It's probably the most influential to your online success of all the other basic marketing methods we are going to go through today.

If you don't want to create the content yourself, and you have a budget, you can hire someone to do it for you. Or you can distribute PLR content (Private Label Rights). PLR gives you the authority to distribute other people's content who have given you permission to do so. With PLR you can even change and add your name as the author. It's really quite versatile what you can do, and it's a great way to get started if you are a beginner.

Is the term "content marketing" causing a question mark in your brain? Here's a good Basics of Content Marketing article you might like by Jodi Harris.

2. Videos Get Attention

Use videos to share your message, your story, your how-to tutorials or teach about a product. There are so many different kinds of videos. If you learn the techniques your videos will never get boring or become repetitious.

basic marketing methods

Technically this could be included in content marketing. But it's another one of those can't-do-without basic marketing methods that needs to have it's own category. It's just that important on it's own.

Get a good YouTube channel going, with lots of views and subscribers. Learn to optimize the videos to get placed high in Youtube search. When someone comes along and types in one of your keywords, they'll see your videos.

Customizing the videos is fun and easy to do. You can add intro's and outro's, transitions, elements, music, and more cool stuff. So now you're having fun sharing your message. Video is one of my favorite marketing methods.

Video has now become so popular that it is and will remain forever one of the most basic marketing methods that every networker must learn, know, and use.

3. Some Say Email Marketing Is Dead - It's Not

Not by a long shot. In fact it's never been more alive. But it means building a list. So yes, you'll have to learn how to do some stuff. Your content marketing skills kick in here. You need a compelling offer to exchange for an email address. A simple PDF works fine. Could be a super short ebook or a checklist. But it has to contain valuable information that people really need and want.

basic marketing methods

Creating the PDF is not difficult. There's plenty of training available. You'll also need a landing page with opt-in form and a good image of your ebook. Again there's plenty of training available. And of course an autoresponder service to complete the funnel for proper deliver of your free book or product.

4. Blogging For Branding

Everyone should be blogging that is trying to brand themselves or their business online. There's so much you can do with a blog and so much that it leads to. This will work in conjunction with the full blown website that you will eventually build. Start with the blog so you can learn in steps.

basic marketing methods

When we speak about basic marketing methods, blogging ranks among the most needed as well. This one can fool you though. A new marketer must learn exactly what blogging will lead into, and how it's such an integral part of the big picture. For a newbie, it would be easy to pass blogging off as an annoyance without a lot of merit. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Your blog will be your home base. You can send traffic there so people get to know you, and to build your list. The blog merges with email marketing in this way. You can also get your blog posts ranked on Google. You'll be learning all about SEO for this aspect of blogging, which can be richly beneficial in it's own right.

Sharing your blog posts on social media is an excellent way to promote your business without being spammy. And it will help you establish yourself as an authority figure in your niche. This one aspect of blogging alone is a highly beneficial marketing method that deserves your full attention.

Blogging is for everyone. It teaches many different aspects of marketing on one platform. How to write for Google for SEO purposes, and how to write for UX (user experience).

You will learn to optimize the posts and web pages for both Google and for UX, how to build a list, and how to connect your blog with your Facebook. And finally, it gives you a base to drive traffic to ... so you can learn that as well.

So start blogging.

5. Talking To Your Friends Online

Let's use Facebook as the example. They are the most popular. So you want to create awareness of your message, product, or service, with the occasional post. Let people know you have something going on. But the trick here is to use curiosity. It works every time. In other words don't be spammy, but mention things that make people curious.

basic marketing methods

But you don't want to just post your timeline and nothing else You also want to have regular conversations with people. This is more personal, and will get you more reach with Facebook.

That's right, just talking to your friends through messenger and commenting will get your posts seen by more people. Without this engagement Facebook is only showing your content to a fraction of your friends list.

So strike up casual conversations with people through messenger, and see where it takes you. This should be part of your daily routine.

6. Facebook Business Pages & Facebook Advertising

This is the other piece to Facebook marketing. If you have a business, you should have a business page. This is where you can talk about your business, your product, or your service ...all you want. Your business page is also your home base for creating and launching Facebook Ads. You have to have a business page to take advantage of the Facebook Ads program.

basic marketing methods

Facebook Ads are a learned skill, but once learned can bring some good returns. Take your time and get accustomed to the ins and outs of creating successful ad campaigns. Start slow and low (low budget). Do some testing, get the hang of it, and scale up from there.

7. More Social Media

Facebook is the biggest stage, but not the only stage. Join and learn the other social media platforms if you have not done so yet. We often talk about these 3 factors to finding success with online marketing: getting seen, becoming known, and being consistent. Getting yourself and your content out there and 'being everywhere' is one key to those 3 factors. So learn to 'be everywhere'.

basic marketing methods

If you use your phone and images a lot, jump on Instagram. Statistics show it can be very beneficial to those who do. And also Pinterest. Learn it and test it. See if there is a market there for you.

Linkedin is popular among businesses, corporations and professionals. Not so much for network marketers. But you can get some traction there if you are presenting in a professional manner or if you want to shoulder up with some other corporate folks.

Some people, especially newer networkers, may tend to overlook social media as a viable marketing option. They may think of it more as a fun or social thing to do in their spare time. It is that, for sure ... but to not realize social media as one of the essential and basic marketing methods would be a mistake.

There is incredible potential of marketing benefits with social media platforms. It just needs to be done in the correct way. And the best way to learn the correct way, is to just get in there and start figuring it out. Adding conversations, comments, valuable and beneficial content will get you places.

8. SEO

Search Engine Optimization. There are new people coming online every day. They learn how to use Google and search for stuff they are looking for, including products and businesses. Just as there are people already online doing the same thing. So who gets to be seen when a person types in a search word?

basic marketing methods

The final say is up to Google, but we as marketers can surely do our parts to ensure we are in the running.

Google looks for "optimized" web pages to be the ones to show in search results. So how can we help? By learning how to optimize our pages and blog posts. This is called getting ranked by Google.

You'll also see the term SERP (search engine rank page) used often. That is the page you see when you search for something on Google. You want to be on page 1.

SEO is big business ... huge business and it doesn't cost anything to get on the "organic" placement sections. At least not directly. Of course you will have time, money, and effort in learning, and in hosting and maintaining websites. But the time investment can ultimately bring big returns.

SEO may not be among the highest of basic marketing methods for the beginner. But as you advance with your marketing it will become more of a priority. It's another area where your blogging will come into play, and be a big piece of.

SEO can seem technical and scary, but companies like Yoast will make your SEO journey much easier. They make a plugin for WordPress that will have you point and click optimizing your posts in no time. Here's an SEO Basics article you might get a lot out of.

9. Google Ads

We just talked about "organic" traffic in #8. Then there's Google Ads (formerly known as Adwords). This is the other part of getting your site on the SERPs. It's paid advertising, or PPC (pay per click).

basic marketing methods

We could devote an entire post to Google Ads. In fact we probably will in the near future. So be on the lookout for that one.

10. Be Everywhere

I'll just round this off with a mixture. You want to brand yourself or your business online and you want to be seen everywhere to do it. There are a lot of Internet marketing sites that you can join and advertise on. Banner exchanges, text exchanges, and solo ad providers can be good too. There are also programs with large databases for emailing back and forth.

basic marketing methods

Most people on these platforms are there for the same thing, promoting their bizopp. It can be a bit like chasing a tail.... but you'll get exposure and some brand awareness. It's also a good way to get hits on your websites that Google will pick up on. That's how these internet advertising programs can help to get your websites ranked higher on Google.

You'll want to learn about backlinks too. Link building for Google is something that you will for sure want to learn as you advance. It's a big factor with SEO.

Conclusion: Building Your Brand Online With These 10 Basic Marketing Methods

It's okay to have favorites, we all do, but you still want to diversify. There's not any one method that can take you as far as utilizing many methods. Start with these 10 basics.

Get started right away with what you know and what you are good at. And while you are doing those things, start learning and implementing the others.

Content marketing is king. It's a broad category that includes much of what we then singled out.

Video marketing, blogging, and social media make up the bulk of your content marketing. You will learn how they can all tie in together for a smooth and robust plan of getting yourself out there and everywhere.

These 10 basic marketing methods are by no means something that anyone would expect you to learn overnight or all at once.

Take your time, get good and familiar with one, then add the next. Keep doing that until you consider yourself to be a proficient online marketer.

And then keep adding on to your skill-sets. Don't ever stop. No one is ever so good so as to not continue learning.

Are you a beginner online marketer? Have you been told you should be blogging? Has this made you wonder how to use a blog for business?

So what's this all about? Why should you bother with a blog and how can it benefit you?

blog for business

In this post we are going to help with these questions. We are going to tell you, and show you, how to use a blog for business.

Before we get into step by step instructions of how to blog, we will cover the basics of why you should be blogging, and why it makes sense to use a blog for business.

Build Your Brand

It all begins with establishing yourself online, creating a brand, and having a home base to drive traffic to.

blog for business

A blog is the perfect platform for doing those things. Use the blog to tell people about yourself.

Let them get to know you. Provide value by teaching something, and build a list at the same time

Blog posts are published on the internet. Each post has it's own unique URL and therefore can never get buried or lost or forgotten. They can also be updated at any time.

Make Google Happy

It's recommended to update your posts now and then. Doing so will renew the page indexing by Google each time.  You can watch the post climb in page rank as you continue to add value to the article. You want your website to be the one that's seen by people that do Google searches. That's what this is all about.

UPDATING YOUR POSTS IS A GOOD THING TO DO!

Bringing posts back to life with updates, additions, and enhancements provides more value for the reader and for Google. Updating can be faster and easier than trying to write a brand new post every time, and Google loves long form detailed content. You can't go wrong updating posts whenever you have new relevant content to add.

Blog posts are also easy to access. They can be found fast with a simple search at your blog page. Just put your keyword in the search box and you'll get a listing of all relevant posts. Very convenient for the reader.

Keep Your Network Updated

Blogging is an exceptional way to provide information that is continuously ongoing and advancing. Keeping people informed with useful information is a great way to build up subscribers and followers. You'll become known as an authority figure in your niche.

Use your blog as a home base to drive traffic and for sharing to all your other various social media platforms. You can create a wheel. Your blog is the hub with spokes linking your other online properties and pages.

Build your mailing list on your blog by offering a free compelling offer in exchange for an email.

Link Building

Link building is another important factor for Google ranking. Notice I said link building this time, not list building. Building a link profile and a linked network is pretty major for getting ranked and for building up your domain authority. That's why you want to tie everything together.

You can build links internally. Use anchor text to link with other pages of your website. You can also link build externally. These are called backlinks and they occur when other webmasters and bloggers link to your content from their websites.

link building is important!

Backlinks are big signals for Google page ranking. The more backlinks you have, the more points you get with Google. Google uses backlinks to gauge how important your page is. If someone links to you, they are giving you credibility. The higher the domain authority from those giving backlinks, the more points you get.

Sharing from your blog can get you backlinks if done right. There are techniques that we will cover more extensively in future posts.

Having a home base for your content is a great way to stay organized. Repackaging your content will help you build up your brand. Different delivery methods with the same content can make it appear new and fresh. It's perfectly okay to do this. It helps to always provide unique and high-quality material that is owned and branded by you.

Everyone Should Blog For Business

Everyone who is trying to create a brand, share a message online, or build a business should have a blog. From there you can add a Home Page, an About Me page, and Contact page. There are no limits. You can attach as many pages as you want and have a nice menu at the top to map the site.

Using a blog for business is something a beginner can do. Any person can have one up and running quickly with relatively little online experience, and will learn a lot about internet marketing. There are tools available that make it easy and fast.

Getting Started - You Need A Hosting Account

Now I'll go through some steps to get started, and provide some tips and resources to help you along with your task of using a blog for business.

First you need a hosting account. I use WPX Hosting which is an upgrade for me from my original hosting account. It's a slightly more advanced hosting company that specializes in WordPress and server speed.

blog for business

A beginner can use a shared hosting account such as HostGator. That's what I started with and I used it for years. I still use if for certain applications. HostGator is perfect for beginners. The price is right and it's perfectly sufficient for what you'll be doing.

blog for business

Choose the Baby Plan so you get the unlimited domains feature.

blog for business

Installing WordPress

Once you get your hosting account, setting up WordPress is a breeze. In your C-Panel (Control Panel) is a Quick Install button and the rest is fast and easy. Click through and follow the guide.

blog for business

WordPress will send you an email with your password and login link. Save the email for easy reference.

Now you have your WordPress blog/website, but it's just an empty shell at this point. You have a choice of free themes to choose from. Find the one you like and click to install. It's all done within your WordPress dashboard.

blog for business

There are premium themes available for a minimal cost. You are welcome to scan through what's available..

Once you have your theme you can add a header image and you'll be able to see the sidebar. It's starting to take shape.

Plugins

Still there are some things to do behind the scenes for site security, for backups, and for optimizing your posts and pages.

Plugins are like apps. They are as easy to install as the theme. Point and click. But there's thousands to choose from so don't let this rattle you.

You only need a few plugins to start that we will suggest here. They are all free.

A FEW PLUGINS WE RECOMMEND

  • Akismet Anti-Spam is a plugin that will monitor your site for spam comments. It works on auto-pilot and if you don't use it you will get a lot of spammers trying to advertise on your post comments.
  • The Wordfence Security is an anti-virus, firewall and malware scanner. It will protect your site against viruses and hackers.
  • WP-DBManager is a database manager for your entire site. It will back everything up automatically and completely take care of all your data. If your site ever gets corrupted for any reason you will be glad you have it.
  • check
The Yoast SEO plugin will take care of everything SEO. You are definitely going to want to have the Yoast plugin, if you plan to use a blog for business.
blog for business

There are more plugins you might want to take advantage of once you get going. One great thing about WordPress is that once you get rolling, there are always things you can do, and add, to make your site better.

The Sooner You Start Blogging, The Better

Another Google SEO factor is something called domain authority. Domain authority comes with time, and with link building with other established bloggers. Not only that but it can take up to 6 months just to get recognized and indexed by Google. So begin now and start establishing yourself with Google and with the online world.

I hope you enjoyed this overview and I hope that you received value from it. If you have a business, and you are not blogging yet, it is my wish that you immediately put in place a plan to start. Not only does it make a lot of sense to blog for business, some will say it's mandatory in this day and age.

I'm a beginner network marketer. I've joined an MLM business. What's the best social media strategy for a beginner?

Does that sound familiar?

Some say don't promote your business on your personal page. They say only on a business page. Some say it's okay on a personal page. What is better?

How about that one? Have you heard it before too?

So Let's talk About social media strategy for a beginner

It's all about engagement. That's the main thing. Your #1 goal is to create engagement.

But why? What does that do?

I want to make sales and enroll team members.

How will this "engagement" thing help me do that?

Engagement is interaction. Sales and team building comes from driving traffic to your websites, to your content, and to you. There are a lot of triggers that create this traffic, and social media interaction is one of those triggers. A big one.

So keep reading we are going to break this down as to the how's and why's. It will answer those questions.

Should I Promote My Business On My Personal Page?

It's really a personal preference. Are you passionate enough about your business to shout it out to the world? If the passion is not there, or if you are afraid of what your friends and family will think, then you might not be all in.

It's like sticking your toe in the water but being reluctant to jump.

I promote my business on my personal page because it's something that I believe in and that I'm proud about. But I do it in a strategic way. You can do it effectively without being a pain in the rear.

Teaching things that are somehow relevant to your product is a good strategy. Mixing your posts up with personal stuff, raising awareness of issues, and offering solutions to problems is a good mix. So are testimonials and talking about benefits. Not being overly repetitious will keep you out of that "you're annoying" space.

Just so you know ... not posting regularly, is NOT a good strategy.

A good social media strategy for a beginner might be learning how to promote your business or product on your timeline, while you are learning other facets of marketing. You can be setting up a business page and getting an audience and enough likes while you're learning.

social media strategy for a beginner

But if you hold off talking about your business while you're building up your business page, then nothing is happening for you. You already have an audience on your timeline or personal page. Learn to use it effectively.

How Serious Are You About Your Business?

If you are serious about your business and what you are doing, you won't worry about what your friends and family think, and you might even win some of them over. They will see your passions and that you believe strongly in what you are doing. They will understand that you don't care if someone else doesn't like it. And they might even want to follow you because of those qualities. Some might not, and that's okay.

Using social media to get yourself out there is a good social media strategy for a beginner. Self branding is something that can propel you significantly in your business world. You can become known as an authority figure in your niche.

social media strategy for a beginner

But there are other advantages that come with learning social media marketing as well. Use it to build social signals, social proof and website syndication. Learn how to create a web of your internet real estate and link it all together. And posting all the content you are learning to create is putting social media to work for you.

The following factors are all important and have their place in any social media strategy for a beginner.

Social Signals

Okay .. so what are social signals? The MOZ blog says it like this ....

social media strategy for a beginner

Social signals are human interaction metrics on social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Medium, etc. Some examples of social signals are: likes, dislikes, shares, votes, pins, views, etc. which commonly help to showcase popularity and affinity for a specific piece of content.

Social signals have become an important factor in a SERP (Search Engine Results Page). You know ... that page that you see when you search for something on Google. You put in a keyword or keywords, hit submit, and Google brings back their results. There was a time when the results were based almost entirely on anchor text links, backlinks, keywords, and a few other traditional SEO factors .... but now social media is here and things are changing.

social media strategy for a beginner

So you see... social media marketing really does have more of an effect on your business then you might realize, and the way you market on the social platforms has everything to do with your social signal strength.

Social Proof

The more popular you are, the more people want to follow you. If there's a crowd, people stop to see for themselves. They want to know what's going on. If people are gathering, they want to gather too.

It's a phenomenon. We don't know why it is, it just is. People might not know you at all, but if you have a following they will want to follow too. They will think you must be really good at something. On social media they call this social proof. The more popular you become, the more social proof you earn..

Search engines even give points for social proof. You can literally rank higher for being popular. They might judge your reliability, or your trust factor on your social proof. It must mean to them that you are putting out high quality content and providing useful information. Why else would people want to follow, like, and comment on your posts?

Earning social proof is not overly difficult.

It starts with being social, and learning how to communicate on the social platforms in an engaging way that provides value and benefits. Engagement is a big factor. Friends of friends and friends of family really do care about what those that they are connected to are doing and saying, and who they are following and engaging with. You can become an influencer just in the way you post and the content you provide.

So start creating social signals and earning social proof. These alone are a good social media strategy for a beginner.

Here's something interesting. In the Kissmetrics Blog article 7 Things You MUST Understand When Leveraging Social Proof in Your Marketing Efforts, #6 Authority Rules! states the following ....

social media strategy for a beginner

6. Authority Rules!

You probably already know that “influencers” are sought after as sponsors because they are so, well… influential. But why does everything they touch seem to turn to gold in the eyes of their followers? We find in the answer a very interesting cognitive bias known as the halo effect. Psychologists have found that we are likely to judge a person’s opinion based on our overall impression of him or her.

This explains why “influencers” seem to have the Midas touch. Since they already have an established reputation, anything else they involve themselves with is seen in a better light by association. This is why a testimonial from an influential person is one of the few alternatives that can help you boost the effectiveness of your social proof. You can use a notable person in your industry:

Showing Yourself As A Professional Is A Big Social Media Strategy For A Beginner

You are in this for business. If you weren't you wouldn't be reading this post. So you should present yourself as a professional. Let your visitors know that you have a business and let them know that you are serious about building your business.

I'm not saying that your profile picture or your cover image should be pictures of your company or product. Do that on your business page but not your personal page. However you can still set up your personal page to show what you do and what your business is.

A head shot for a profile pic is fine, and maybe some kind of a lifestyle image for your header is fine too. You are not advertising your business, but you are letting your visitors know that the way you present yourself means something to you and that you want to be taken seriously

social media strategy for a beginner

Complete Your Page

Fill in the about me sections and your mission statement. Have a complete page so your visitors can read and learn about you. Let them know that if they were considering a business you would be a good person to talk to and to learn from. Don't try to be someone or something you're not. Just be yourself and be real. If you are new at your business or at marketing it's okay to tell people that. Tell them you are working hard at learning it all and getting better, and that you like to share what you learn with others..

social media strategy for a beginner
social media strategy for a beginner
social media strategy for a beginner

Showing yourself as a serious professional really is the best social media strategy for a beginner I can give you. It's the foundation of it all. Getting other peoples attention and holding their attention is the first step. If you can't do that they just won't take you seriously enough.

Social signals and social proof don't happen overnight.

It takes time to learn the techniques for posting and sharing, and it takes time to learn content marketing. But you can start now. You have the basics. Now it's time to take action. Start with your page and fix it up so you come across as a person who is serious about being taken seriously.

Creating and posting quality content that people can and will share can really give you a boost. It's a known fact that word of mouth recommendations are the strongest there is. If your friends and contacts like and share your content, their friends and contacts are likely to do the same thing, and so it goes.

If you learn content marketing you can share variations of your material so it never gets boring. Your friends will begin to anticipate what you are going to come out with next. They might even start asking questions about learning how to do the same things you do. This could be the beginning of your first training or tutorial product.

Expand Your Reach

There is one last thing I absolutely cannot leave out especially while I'm on the subject of sharing content and getting engagement on your posts. Have you ever felt like only a small percentage of your friends are seeing your posts on Facebook? Well it's not your imagination. Facebook is programmed that way. It's in their algorithm. Those who are engaging with you are the ones who see your posts.

They call this your "reach" So if you want to expand your reach, then expand your content sharing and give it value. Make it beneficial and engaging and shareable. The more people who like, comment, and share your posts, the wider and deeper your reach becomes. And those people's friends and their friends begin seeing your posts also.

But you can't count on getting likes, comments, and shares alone. You must give likes, comments, and shares as well. It's a two sided thing, and it's what creates engagement. If you engage with others, they will engage back. So make it part of your routine.

This Will Get You Started

This is really just the beginning, but it will get you going. There are tools of the trade that will help you automate and syndicate. Learning how to create a web of online real estate is when it starts getting exciting and very real. Start with your social presence and then move to blogging. The two work hand in hand. Putting them together will seriously boost your social signals and your social proof.

So there you have it. My recommendations for a simple social media strategy for a beginner internet marketer. I seriously hope you get some use out of this and get started today. Feel free to leave me a comment if you think this might help, and click here if you want to get on my newsletter for more tips like these.

We see far too many people join a network marketing company or an affiliate program only to freeze when they don't know what to do after they join. If instead those people took the time and effort to learn how to market online first, they could come out of the gates blazing.

It's a common thing ... getting wrapped up in the excitement of a new gig causing us to not even think about what we will need to do next. I think most people start that way.
We did too. But we learned lessons and now we want to share our experiences, and how critical it is to get some basic fundamentals in online marketing. We hope we can provide some value in this area and help others realize that learning how to market online should be their first priority.

how to market online

Your Homebase and Your Hub

This is what we are doing now and you should too ... intensive internet marketing training. Learning how to blog and build a website. Use this as your homebase and your hub for feeding your social platforms. It is the key to building your own brand online. Providing good content that has value and benefits. It will attract other networkers to you. They will see the benefits and will want to do it also. Include all other aspects of internet marketing such as SEO, video marketing, and list building.

Make The Decision To Learn How To Market Online

Making a decision to learn how to market online and building your own brand online could be the best move you will ever make. It's not easy. It requires hard work and daily action. But it's worth it in the long run. We've been down this road and we learned some hard lessons. It's not fun wondering what to do next, or if you've made a mistake even getting involved. People quit days later after realizing they don't know what to do to make it happen.

Build Your Own Brand

Establishing your own brand and learning how to be seen, how to become known, and how to be everywhere will take all that guess work away. Things will be different when you learn how to market online properly. Anyone can do it. There's a ton of training available and for free too. You will need to invest in some low cost marketing tools and aides like hosting and domains but it's not a big deal. Compare it to expenses for starting and building any other kind of business. There is no comparison.

When you learn how to market online you won't have to depend on any company or team or upline to do it for you. Sure, any help will be a bonus, but generally speaking, network marketing or direct sales companies have never been providers of the kind of marketing tools and materials that will set you apart from the crowd. They won't teach you how to build your brand and become the leader. They are busy providing a replicated website, and the products and infrastructure for managing your business. That is their priority as well it should be.

A good  network marketing company will provide a stable and long lasting platform for you to build a residual income, and some very basic marketing materials. That's all you will need when you become proficient at building your business.

how to market online

Your Priority Becomes Promoting The Brand Of You

So your priority becomes promoting you, and why people would want to join you. This will bring better results than if you are always branding the product and the company. Of course you have to do some of that, but it's also quite necessary to provide your own value as well. Naturally your friends will join you, but no one has ever built a walk away income with just their friends and family. Your reach will need to extend far beyond that. Learning how to market online will help you pull that off.

Get Good At Online Marketing

When you get good at online marketing you'll be able to choose any company you want or build any business you want. It won't matter ... you'll be able to build it. You will be the nucleus, and if you choose a good company or a good product, you'll then have a one, two punch.

We spent years rambling about, bouncing around, going here and going there, not knowing what to do first or what to do next. Don't do what we did. Decide now to learn how to market online, and then choose what you are going to build.

There are right ways and wrong ways of doing just about everything ... would you agree? Writing blog posts and articles are no exception. At least not if you want to get read, and if you want people to take you seriously, and to come back for more.

Formats, styles, content, and how you deliver is ever evolving, but one thing remains constant, and that's how you write to get your readers attention, and to keep their attention.

The fact is, there are some critical basics for writing blog posts that never go out of style. I've listed a few of those here for you.

1. Know Who You Are Writing To

I'm sure you've heard it before about a gazillion times... know your audience. It only makes sense though. I do not need to spend a lot of time here. It kind of goes without saying that you will know who your target audience is. But even so... knowing who your audience is, and what they need to hear might be two slightly different things. It's crucial to provide content that your readers have an interest in, and in a way that will capture and keep them.

2. Know Your Topic

There's big talk about the importance of being consistent and regular in your online content. And it's true, you do need to be somewhat consistent. But that doesn't mean writing randomly about the sky just to get something out there. You do have to have a topic, and you do need to know something about it. So study up on your chosen topic if you need to. We are all a mouse click away from the largest information source in the world and it's all free, so use it.

3. Stories Don't Just Tell They Also Sell

Get personal. Write like a fellow human being and like a friend. Tell your story. Weave it in with your topic and content. You'll be amazed at the difference in reactions and attention. People love it when they have something they can really relate too. Your story may be their story too. Everyone can appreciate a good story, and now you are not just writing, but conversing as well. There is nothing better than captivating the attention of your reader with something that has an impact on them. Stories can do that well.

writing blog posts

4. Use Bold Headlines That Summarize The Content

Headline your article, and some of your paragraphs too. Headlines should not be tricky or cute. That's hard to pull off. Headlines should do nothing but tell the reader what they are about to hear. Use your headlines to "hook" the reader, but never in a deceptive way. Creating good "hooker" headlines is a skill that you will learn and get better at. When a reader stays you know they are intrigued and want to learn more.

5. Provide Value For Your Readers

Gone are the days of keyword stacking and rambling just to deliver content. Google, and your readers, want to see real content that means something. You can suggest, recommend, teach, opinionate, summarize, educate, or narrate, but just make sure your reader walks away feeling as though they got something from reading your post. Provide value and benefit. That is what will keep your audience coming back for more.

6. Discuss Benefits Not Features

It's all about them ... the readers. How will your product make them feel, or make things easier for them, or change their financial situation. Regardless of what your product is, your readers don't care so much about all the features of the product, they care about how it will affect them. Tell your story, or the product story, in a way that makes it about them, the reader. How will THEY benefit?

writing blog posts

7. Be Specific, Explain, and Provide Details

Will you agree that some of the reason for doing all this is to be found on the internet when people search for something? That means writing blog posts the way Google wants to see them written. They are the ones that need to be kept happy when it comes to page rank (your ranking or positioning in the search engine results).

There was a time when a blogger could write in just about any way, at any length, and stuff a bunch of keywords anywhere in the content. Not any more. Now google wants to see high quality content, details, and explanations, and quite frankly so does your readers. They can get filler and fluff anywhere. Google also wants to see longer posts than before. Keywords need to be strategically placed within the content in a way that makes good reading. It should all flow and make sense.

8. Include Images

Images do three things. They provide more SEO juice for Google, they get the readers attention, and they break up your content so it's more visually stimulating. Your images should relate to your topic in some way. It can be indirectly, but it should have some kind of connection, even if it's symbolic in a sense. You'll be able to keyword tag your images which is one of the SEO magnets. Your images can also be found in search engines for additional exposure back to your brand. Images are one of the most attention grabbing pieces of content used today. So are videos.

9.Just Get Started

Above all else ... just get started and you can perfect your blogging skills and your SEO knowledge along the way.Yes, Google will be looking for all the things I mentioned in the previous paragraphs. But that doesn't mean holding yourself back thinking it all has to be perfect or that you need to know everything. Writing blog posts is something that you will get better at as you go.

writing blog posts

The main thing is to get started. You can learn and get better as you go. You won't break anything and you won't be spanked. These are simply guidelines and things to work towards. Just get started and you'll be surprised how fast you get the hang of it.

So there you have it. The A,B,C's of writing blog posts. It's not rocket science and it does not have to be perfect. It's better to be constant and conform as best you can to these simple basics. The rest will all come with repetition. You'll be fine. Writing blog posts does not have to be a dreaded chore. You can enjoy yourself doing it. So have fun and happy blogging to you!

Are you unsure about getting started with online marketing? Do you want to get something going but just not sure where or how to begin?

Today we will talk about it. We will talk about how important it is to just start, and that you don't have to be an expert, but rather just a little motivated. I have a lot of friends in the industry and I watch way too many capable people lose interest and lose their dreams simply because they just could not start taking action..

Getting Started With Online Marketing Does Not Have To Be Difficult

Start with the basics and keep it simple in the beginning. Step by step. It's okay if you don't know the first thing about it right now. You know enough ... everyone knows enough to get out there and get started.

getting started with online marketing

I can help you along with some simple advice and direction. Create an identity. This is the beginning of building your brand. You'll see the importance of this as you get going. Anyone that wants to make something happen online must create an identity and a brand. If you don't, you are just a ghost.

Your Domain Name - This Is Step 1

Your domain name is your name tag. It's all part of your brand. It can be anything you want it to be. Preferably something professional that relates to you. Some people use their name if they are an individual business person.

Company owners might use a company name or a company tagline. Others might use a nickname or something that people know you are associated with. But keep it professional. You can always adjust before you get too deep into it.

Get Your Hosting Account and Set Up Your Blog - Step 2

This is your next step. You are creating an identity online, and you are creating some online real estate. People have to be able to find you if they put your name in a search engine. This is the beginning.

You can add your home page and subsequent website pages later but start with a wordpress.org blog. This will get you going in the easiest and fastest way.

I use HostGator for my basic hosting. They are a good fit for a beginner. Once you get your hosting account the wordpress website is an easy install through the HostGator dashboard.

Too many people get hung up on trying to create the perfect home page website first. But it freezes them. You will hear me mention "rapid implementation" often times. Taking action is the key. Blogging is essential in your training. It's not just the writing of a blog post, but what it all leads to.

Blogging is your gateway to learning SEO, images, link building, list building, and setting up sales funnels. You start with the basics, you learn the basics, and then you start adding on. A sure-fire way to get frustrated and quit is trying to learn too much and too many different things at once. It gets overwhelming and you'll get lost. We won't let you do that if you follow us along.

Getting Started With Online Marketing

Learn As You Go And Build On Your Momentum

As you start learning and building momentum you will get more excited. Getting started with online marketing might seem hard at first, but stay with it and it will all start to make sense.

You'll develop a plan of action and a path to follow. My book, Internet Marketing Basics for the Beginner, talks a lot about the importance of having a plan and a strategy to follow. It will keep you on track and in the game.

These suggestions are the best advice I have for you. I'm speaking from experience. There's nothing better than self satisfaction in watching yourself grow and learn. There's plenty of training and it's all free. You have a complete encyclopedia a click away. Just Google it. Absorb and learn.

Your blog will become the hub of your networking wheel. You'll share your blog posts on your social media platforms. You will learn to repackage your blog content into various other forms of content. This leads to "content marketing" where it gets fun and exciting.

Next you will build your website home page, your about me page, your lead capture page, and your list building funnels. This is what blogging will lead you to, and this is where getting started with online marketing will take you.

All The Training You Need Is Free And A Mouse Click Away

So instead of putting things off because you're not really exactly sure what to do, the thing is that if you just decide you are getting started with online marketing, you will. Put some things in motion. Take my advice and start with step one and step two. The rest will come to you as you go. It doesn't have to be perfect and it doesn't have to be pretty. Remember ... rapid implementation.

You can take all the trainings in the world, attend all the webinars and workshops, read all the ebooks, and drive yourself crazy doing those things ... or you can just start and do, and learn as you go. The latter is by far the better.

Will you make mistakes? Of course you will. Will you learn from them? Yes! Nothing will break... you can't hurt yourself. Try it and you'll see. Learn how to set up a blog, how to post and market on Facebook, and how to create a Youtube channel and start doing some videos.

There Are People Willing To Help

Find someone who is doing the things you want to do, watch them, study them, learn from them, and then do what they do. Search around and you'll eventually find someone who's training style you like. Follow that person.

You will progress... you will polish it, and fine tune it, and it will work into something you can be proud of. Getting started with online marketing will lead you to bigger and better things.

Start with the basics. Work on those things and you'll get comfortable. You'll find what you are good at. It could be blogging, or social media, or videos. Learn that thing and learn it well and become an expert at it. Then start adding things to your portfolio. Eventually you will tie it all together.

getting started with online marketing

After working at it for a while your current tasks will become habit. There's a lot of methods that can be incorporated into your daily routine that will gradually get you to the success that you want.

Everyone Can If They Want To

Anybody can do this. You don't have to have any experience and you don't have to be some kind of a whiz or guru. You just need to take some simple action steps. I was doing this the slow long hard way ... doing it on my own figuring it all out from scratch. .

You don't have to do it that way. Do it on your own but with the help and guidance of someone who has been through it and who is willing to answer your questions. It's not necessary for someone to do it for you and you don't need hand holding ... you simply need guidance.

I'm not an expert now by any means but I've come a little ways. Not knowing a thing about it when I started I even put a note out about it that said "hey everyone I'm going to start blogging but i have not idea what i'm doing".Telling everyone what I was going to do ... means I had to do it.

Helping Others Will help You

I can now see where it is all going and along with a brighter future. If i can help just one person that's very well worth it. I'm helping myself at the same time I'm helping someone else.

Learning as I go and teaching others. You know they say one of the best ways to learn is to teach what you learn. It sticks better. When you learn something, teach another person what you learned. Post about it, blog about it, and video about it.

Everyone has strengths .... finding yours is the key. Getting started will help you do that.

Getting Started With Online Marketing 2

So you see ... getting started with online marketing could be the best decision you make. There is only one thing holding you back, and that is you. So get started today.

Do you want to create a brand online?

Try content marketing and get yourself noticed. There are two things that I learned early in my internet marketing career that must be done to even think about becoming successful online - Getting Seen, and Becoming Known.

With content marketing strategies you can accomplish both those things.

Content marketing is inexpensive, and it's easy (if you like writing and creating stuff). It's also a true investment in your business that can pay off over and over again, for years to come. You can literally create content today and have it still working for you a year from now ... or even 5 years from now. They call it marketing, but it's really just about teaching and educating interested parties on some subject. Teaching and engaging people ...bringing them into your fold by providing useful content.

It's a simple concept

Do you remember having a favorite teacher in school because they taught cool stuff that actually meant something to you? Stuff that you could use in real life. Stuff that might benefit you in some way? Or how about that friend who was unique and that always had something interesting going on. You were always open to hearing what they were up to right? You may even have thought that you could learn some things from that person.

Consider the 5 points below to get you started with content marketing. Start your journey of becoming that go-to person for some of you contacts.

1. Choose A Topic

Everyone is good at something .... everyone has something to share on some given subject ...everyone has something to contribute that others can get some use from.

2. Create a Website for Your Content

You have to have a home for your content. A central place you can send people, so they know who you are and what you are about. Your website is your home base. This is where you will drive traffic either through free marketing or paid advertising. Consider it your hub that everything else will link to or link from. It doesn't matter if you have a bricks and mortar business or if you are strictly online. Sending traffic to your website is what get's them in the door.

content marketing

3. Create Your Content in Multiple Formats

This is where it gets fun. You can take the same material and spin and twist it over and over again into different formats and different delivery methods ... always keeping it fresh and new. Each time you will come up with new stuff to add, or a better way to say it ... or a better way to show it. It develops into a new creation every time. This is how you re-purpose your content. Imagine ... blog posts and articles, short reports, eBooks, videos, and podcasts. These are all types of content that you can and should should utilize.

4. Build Your Email List

The money is in the list. Yes we do hear that all the time don't we? Over and over again. So are you building a list? Have you learned how to build a list? Using content marketing is an excellent way to do it. Show people good value and they want more. Once you get people to opt-in to your list trust me you will not have trouble knowing what to send them next. One great method is to use others people stuff. Spin it into your own words and put your brand on it. You don't copy and paste. You use other peoples material to get you started ... to get the gears turning in your brain ... and take it from there. Makes sense right?

5. Market Content on Social Media

Well of course! You are on social media ... I am on social media ... everyone is on social media. So use it to your benefit! Share everything on social media, and the great thing about content marketing is that it doesn't get boring. You are mixing up all your delivery methods. Nothing is ever the same. Share your blog posts, your how-to vidoes, your explainer videos, your voice over videos... there are so many different variations of videos and thats the #1 method today. AND ... put share buttons on everything! When your content becomes so good that people start to share it on social medis... then you know you are well on your way.

content marketing

Now .. rinse and repeat

You will develop a style and a routine that gets easier and easier. You might start with a blog post, turn it into a podcast, then a video of you, then a power point type video with voice-over. You can take your blog post and turn it into several social media posts. Bring images into the mix. Brand your images with your name and website domain. You get the idea right?

Content Marketing - the simple strategy of sharing material in different formats that people find useful and benefit from.

Getting yourself noticed online will be necessary if you are to find people that might be interested in your products, services, or opportunity. There’s a lot of competition so you need to be a little bit different from most.

Once you are known for providing high-value content that people can benefit from, then you’ll start to buildGetting Yourself Noticed up your followers. There’s a lot you can do. Everyone is good at something and everyone has something to offer.

Getting Yourself Noticed Is Not That Difficult

Anyone can do it. Here are a few examples of what you might want to share with others and teach to people.

  • How to set up a hosting account
  • How to buy a domain
  • Why a person would want a domain name
  • How to set up a blog
  • How to set up a facebook fan page
  • Tips and tricks for getting engagement on your Facebook posts
  • Building relationships online
  • How to do Facebook ads
  • How to set up and use a lead capture page inside Facebook
  • Setting up a Youtube Channel
  • Why a person would want to start video marketing
  • How to edit videos
  • What to blog about
  • Image software and how to use them
  • List building principles

Those are just a few examples. So you see, there is tons of stuff that anyone can do and teach to provide value online. This is content marketing and it’s also attraction marketing. People are attracted to those who can help them in some way. People want to work with others who provide training, leadership, and direction.

Be Serious About Your Business

If you let people know that you are serious about what you are doing, that you are in it to win it and that there are no other options but to succeed, and that you are dedicated to your business and there for the long term, then you will get their attention.

On the other hand, if you put yourself out there as someone who is just part time, or just dipping their toe in the water, or if you are jumping all over the place and promoting multiple programs and every next new thing, no one is going to take you seriously … at least not a business builder.

Let people know that you have some knowledge of your industry, and that you stay up on the latest in Getting Yourself Noticedstrategies, and that you are always testing new business building methods that you will be reporting on. Things happen fast and they change fast on the internet… what worked last year might not work so well this year. So read, study, and learn about the industry that you are in, and share what you learn.

By doing these things, you will differentiate yourself from most of the amateur program promoters online pitching their businesses, yet not providing any value and substance and reasons why a person would want to work with them.

Give People A Reason To Want To Join You In Business

Anyone can join anyone, and people join people for a reason. Give them a reason. A lot of people sponsor shop…at least those who are serious about making something happen. They know they need a good leader and good support, so you darn well better let them know you can provide those things.

Getting yourself noticed online is just the beginning, but it’s the first step. Self-branding is critical to establishing your online presence.

Sounds odd right?

But taking just a few action steps regardless if they are pretty and shiny or not, can really get you somewhere.

I talk about this a lot because I see far too many people stall and never get going thinking they have to be an expert at something. They are afraid it’s not going to be good enough, but it is .. it really is good enough.

There are so many things that you can do to start branding yourself online. Start writing or start doing some videos .. anything …even facebook posts can get you going. It’s ok…. you’ll get better, and more comfortable as you go. The main thing is to get your name out there as much and as often as possible. If others recognize your name when they see it, even if they don’t know from where, then you are doing something right. You are on the right path.

The key is doing it consistently.

Keep going and never stop and things will get better you’ll start becoming known and you’ll start getting recognized as on online marketer, blogger, or video person. Branding yourself is so key to making it online I cannot stress this enough. If you can get your name to click or register in people’s minds simply because they see you around often enough, then they are going to think you are good even if you’re not good.

Don’t read too much into that last statement about not being good. I was just driving home a point. You will be good enough and you will get better just by repeating over and over … until you are great. It just happens that way. You will progress and develop.

It doesn’t even matter if you have a perfectly clear path or plan yet. Most don’t when they start, but that’s how you create one. Your actions will take you where you need to go and it will all become clearer in your mind as you progress and get better. You will find your strengths because we all have them. Sometimes they are just hidden.

Nothing can replace teaching yourself how to market online by doing it and learning as you go. That’s the branding yourselftrue definition of developing yourself the skills of the trade. No one can ever take away your knowledge and once you learn about branding yourself and how to market online you can market anything you want. You can build any company or sell any product you want.

Branding yourself online is the best thing you can possibly do for yourself.

Nothing compares. Sure there are some plug and play deals out there that are good, but nothing replaces you becoming the CEO of you. If a person depends on a system, what happens when or if the system goes away. We know the answer to that … you start all over from zero. So build you …not some other company .. and not depending on a system to build for you … but build you. If there’s a system you can plug your team into, that’s great use it …but at the same time, encourage your team to learn how to market online and how to get yourself out there and get yourself known.
